A resident of the Gniezno commune has been deceived by a fraudster claiming to be an employee of a local bank. After making the phone call, the conmen persuaded the victim to enter the login and password for the bank account. The woman lost 40 000 PLN.
The information was provided on Wednesday by the Gniezno police. The scammer was to inform the victim that an unknown person tried to hack into her internet account. He offered to help thwart the theft from the account. Having obtained security data for the bank account, the conmen, using the generated blik codes, transferred 40,000 PLN to another account. Fortunately, the victim, when she became aware of the fraud, blocked the remaining funds in her bank account.
On this occasion, the police once again call for vigilance, while emphasizing that it is the banks that are responsible „for the security of funds in the bank account”.
